Taleblazers Admin, behind the scenes!

With the heat of the summer holidays gently cooling, the start of the Autumn term began.  The tasks and daily errands of my role as Business Manager varies so widely, but that’s all part of the fun.  September is always a busy time for me, as the bookkeeper there’s a whole load of numbers to crunch with our tax and accounting periods closing after another busy year. There are accountant’s emails to review and reply, and costs and budgets to check. There’s something rather pleasing about closing one year and starting the next one afresh, the chance to start a new chapter and learn and improve. 😊

September saw us delivering our Road Safety sessions once again. With thanks to Torbay Council and Vision Zero South West we have visited over 200 pupils across Torbay, and with more visits to come in October. It’s one of our many projects; you can read more about our adventures on the website.

A massive thank you should go out to all the school teachers in Torbay that have welcomed us so well and given us the opportunity to meet and work with the great children in their schools.

We had a chance to meet up with our fruit & vegetable suppliers this month, Devon Fresh and had a really productive meet to learn what else they could provide. Devon Fresh supply our local fresh produce when we are running our HAF holiday clubs and they deliver a wonderful service. We’ll see you soon Devon Fresh, HAF is back for October!

And finally, I got the chance to be part of a very special day at Parke in Bovey Tracey, where the Dartmoor Educators Forum was held. I learnt so much and met some great new people, from cycling, to outdoor adventures and residential activity centres. One of the best things to come from the Forum was the brand new launch of the Dartmoor Challenge Badge, a new collaboration from Dartmoor inviting everybody – families, friends, schools, APs, educators – to take part in a challenge exploring the many wonders that make up the Dartmoor National Park. It’s something we’re trialling at Taleblazers with our team and no doubt it’ll soon become a part of our work that we do. Find out more on the Dartmoor Preservation Association website: https://dartmoorpreservation.co.uk/dartmoor-challenge-badge/

We may even take the idea home and get our two teenagers out on the wintry moor to brave the elements and tick off some of those challenges!

That’s September wrapped up for admin, I’m off to walk Maggie the dog, who’s delighted to back on the beaches for some much missed digging and splashing about 😊
