Kevin Johns, Director and Balladeer

Kev and Rich have been friends since they first met at the 9th Torbay Cub Scouts in 1983. A shared love of folk stories, the great outdoors (especially Dartmoor), campfire and storytelling in all its glorious forms has kept them fronds over the years. Kev’s unique ability to write and perform ballads sowed the seeds for Taleblazers over 20 years ago. The original idea consisted of setting up a tea urn in a Landrover and taking people on folk walks, but during the Covid lockdowns, we started to put a bit more flesh onto the plans. Taleblazers was the result.

Kev’s role is chief storyteller. He can research and write a poem, ballad or short story on just about any theme and for Taleblazers he has written ballads about subjects as diverse as highwaymen, the Spanish Armada, archaeological digs and of course folk stories from Dartmoor. Kev is in integral part of the Taleblazers team and embodies the spirit of everything that we are hoping to achieve.
