The Bedrock Project

Its back!

We are delighted to announce that we have successfully bid for another round of Bedrock Project funding, from Torbay’s Local Heritage Grant Scheme (funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund). If your school missed out in 2024 then we’re going to be in touch to come and see you this summer!

The Bedrock Project is a fully funded initiative in which we are offering free geology sessions and resources to Torbay primary schools. We run a limited number of free half-day geology workshops where we go in and really get the children excited about rocks! The sessions are themed around the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark and include:

  • Meet a geologist – what does a geologist do and what do they carry? What’s so special about a geological hammer?
  • Rock, mineral and fossil samples from Torbay, the UK and beyond
  • The incredible… the unbelievable… Toilet Roll of Time!
  • Learning about the geology of Torbay and how it has changed over the last 400 million years

The project is led by Rich Blagden, a local teacher, geologist and co-founder of Taleblazers. He has been delivering workshops to local schools for a number of years, and his hands-on Geopark sessions are delivered with fun and enthusiasm! A journey through time that will leave your class enthused about the bedrock beneath their feet.

This project was funded as part of Torbay’s Local Heritage Grant Scheme, made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
