The Bedrock Project

Funding for this project has now ended, however we are able to offer Bedrock sessions to schools for a small cost.

The Bedrock Project was a fully funded initiative in which we are offered free geology sessions and resources to Torbay primary schools. We have put together education boxes and lesson plans based around the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark, available to all schools to make it easier for teachers to communicate the international importance of the Geopark and the geology that underpins its status.

We also offered a limited number of schools a free half-day geology workshop where we went in and really got the children excited about rocks! Although the funding has now ended, we are still able to offer these sessions to schools at a reasonable rate – please enquire for costs.

The project is led by Rich Blagden, a local teacher, geologist and co-founder of Taleblazers. He has been delivering workshops to local schools for a number of years, and his hands-on Geopark sessions are delivered with fun and enthusiasm! Session content includes a Meet A Geologist session, rock and fossil displays, the incredible Toilet Roll of Time, maps, rock boxes: a journey through time that will leave your class enthused about the bedrock beneath their feet.

This project was funded as part of Torbay’s Local Heritage Grant Scheme, made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
