This summer, we will be hosting two options for HAF programmes for children based in Torbay and surrounding areas: a Treacle Valley wilderness adventure, and games and play at the ROC centre in Chelston, Torquay.
Taleblazers takes pride in being a recognised provider of the Torbay Council’s Healthy Holidays (HAF) scheme. These free school holiday programmes, funded by Torbay Council, primarily cater to children who receive free school meals. They are designed to ensure that children and young people can enjoy their school breaks in a secure yet wild setting. All activities are supervised by qualified staff and aim to positively impact the participants’ health and well-being, as well as help them develop new skills.
We also maintain a waiting list system to offer any unused places to children who may not meet the funding criteria. While the activities primarily target children in Years 3-6, we do consider older and younger children, especially if they are siblings of eligible participants.
We are thrilled to announce the return of our Treacle Valley adventure for Summer 2023!
Nestled in a picturesque valley, just 2 miles from Torquay, Treacle Valley offers a stunning campsite where children can immerse themselves in nature and forge lasting connections. Our adventure programme at Treacle Valley aims to inspire young people to engage with the land while fostering meaningful relationships through enjoyable activities. Here, children have ample space to simply be themselves, play, and absorb the sights and sounds of the surroundings, all within a safe and nurturing environment.
Our programme boasts a range of exciting and immersive activities, including environmental games, a night walk in search of bats and owls, enchanting campfire storytelling, breathtaking sunset views over the hills, and much more!
As part of our Treacle Valley adventure, we offer a nutritious lunch along with plenty of physical activity.

For the ‘Conserve’ element of the John Muir Award, young people are encouraged and challenged to take part in tasks that help to protect or conserve their chosen place. We explore the benefits of the activity for our young people and the positive educational impact that it can offer.
One of our students, ‘Kmoki’, has been studying anime for her Arts Award and we are delighted that she has agreed to share her work with us to complete her award. She has produced some very beautiful artwork for her project and we’re sure you’re going to love it. Well done, Kmoki!
