This project was started towards the end of the coronavirus lockdowns, and came about as a result of Victoria and Rich’s conversations during our permitted daily exercise! Walking around, we realised that Chelston has many interesting heritage sites that most of use Chelston residents go past each day without realising the stories that lie behind them. We decided to breathe more life into these tales and produced a Heritage Trail linking together these sites of interest. The result is an A3 size heritage map which gives you a route around Chelston and an insight into some of our favourite places. Our friends at Sound Communities have also turned the text into an audio file which you can download as a podcast and listen to as you walk!
We are now in the process of expanding the project to tell the ‘Tales of Chelston’ more deeply. We are running a series of community evenings where residents can come and share their stories, photos and memorabilia with us, as well as creating an online archive of some of the most interesting places.
